Akon (birth name Aliaune Thiam) is an Senegalese-American hip-hop and R&B singer-songwriter. He was born on April 16, 1977, in Saint-Louis, Senegal. He is also record producer, businessman, and philanthropist. In 2006, he released his second album, which earned him a Grammy Award nomination of the single "Smack That". Other singles from the album were "I Wanna Love You" (feat. Snoop Dogg), "Don't Matter", "Mama Africa", "Sorry, Blame It on Me" and "I Can't Wait" (feat. T-Pain).
