American singer, comedian and actor Asa Yoelson, better known as Al Jolson was born on May 26, 1886 in Seredžius, Lithuania, Russian Empire and died on October 23, 1950 in San Francisco, California, the United States. He became one of the most popular American entertainers during the 1930s. He was the first one to give concerts for American troops overseas during the Word War II taking into account that he was not very young, he was 55 when the War had begun. He was a very charismatic person and even Charlie Chaplin noted his skills to make a contact with any audience. His first record appeared in the stored in 1911 and he gained the popularity very quickly. He was one of the biggest Broadway attractions and he became the first artist who was interrupted by applauses and astonishment of the audience that lasted sometimes for 45 minutes.
