Alfredo Kraus (24 September 1927 – 10 September 1999) was a Spanish classical musician and tenor who was well known for extremely refined musicianship. Today he is considered as one of the greatest tenors of the end of the 20th century. He debuted in Cairo as the Duke in Rigoletto, in 1956. He debuted in Cairo as the Duke in Rigoletto, in 1956. Two years later, he sang at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. In the late 1950s, he moved to the US and began to perform in Covent Garden as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. It was a huge success and he started made the appearances throughout the US. During this time, he performed in Lyric Opera of Chicago and in Metropolitan Opera. Later, he diversified his repertoire and included more Italian and French operas: Lucrezia Borgia, La fille du régiment, Linda di Chamounix, Don Pasquale, Roméo et Juliette, Les contes d'Hoffmann, Faust and Lakmé.
