Biography
English-American folk rock band America was founded in 1970. The band’s members are half American and half British as their fathers served at the United States Air Force Base in London, England. They decided to call the band America because of the homeland they saw very seldom due to their traveling around the world. The group began playing on borrowed guitars and they were influenced by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The original members were Gerry Beckley - lead and backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, bass, harmonica, lap steel guitars, Dewey Bunnell - lead and backing vocals, guitars, and Dan Peek - lead and backing vocals, guitars, bass. The band gained a quick success with their hit single number one “A Horse With No Name”. the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.
