Biography

American country and Western Swing band Asleep at the Wheel comes from Paw Paw, Wester Virginia. The band was founded by two musicians Ray Benson and Lucky Oceans in 1969. The current line-up composes of only one founding member Ray Benson and other musicians Elizabeth McQueen, David Earl Miller, Eddie Rivers, Jason Roberts, David Sanger and Dan Walton. The band has become one of the most famous and popular in their genre having received nine Grammy Awards since their formation (for Best Country Instrumental, Best Package Design among others). Recently they have been nominated for Best Americana Album for Willie and the Wheel album (collaboration with Willie Nelson). The band’s biggest hits are “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie”, “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read”, “One O’Clock Jump” and others.
