Biography
The Birthday Party was an Australian post-punk group being active since 1976 till 1983. It was formed in Melbourne by Nick Cave – vocals, Mick Harvey - guitar, drums, vocals, Tracy Pew - bass, vocals Rowland S. Howard - guitar, vocals and Phill Calvert – drums. The group wasn’t popular and didn’t reach the commercial success but it affected such genres as gothic rock, new wave. The group was said to be the darkest post-punk band of that time. At the beginning of its career the band was called The Boys Next Door and they issued an album Door, Door under this name. Later they changed the title for The Birthday Party and released Prayers on Fire, Junkyard, The Birthday Party.
