Biography

Cameo is an American R&B, funk and electro band that was formed in 1974 by former Juilliard student and New York-area clubgoer Larry Blackmon. The band originally called the New York City Players. Signed by Casablanca Records to their Chocolate City imprint in 1976, the group soon changed its name to Cameo after concerns that "New York City Players" might cause confusion between them and the funk band Ohio Players. The group currently consists of Larry Blackmon, Aaron Mills, Charlie Singleton, Tomi Jenkins and Jonathan Moffett. They quickly gained popularity in 1977 with their breakthrough first album, Cardiac Arrest, which spawned the number-one hit single "Rigor Mortis". In 1978, the band released its second album, We All Know Who We Are, which yielded the singles, "Why Have I Lost You", "Its Over" and "We All Know Who We Are".
