The Clovers were an American rhythm & blues band that was founded in 1946 by Harold Lucas, Billy Shelton, and Thomas Woods, and later consisted of Johnnie Mason, Ron Reace, William Rawlings, Antwan Drayton, King Raymond Green, Harold Winley, Franklen Poole, Tyrone Burwell, Juan Hawkins and Tye Lovell. In 1950, they met their future manager Lou Krefetz, who brought the band their first contract with Rainbow Records. A year later, they signed to Atlantic record label. At the same time, they released their breakthrough hit single, "Don't You Know I Love You", which peaked at number one on the national charts and received positive reviews from critics. They continued the success with their following singles, "One Mint Julep" and "Fool, Fool, Fool", which both reached number one in the US. In the late 1950s, they released their next greatest hit, "Love Potion #9", which became the band's best selling single.
