Biography
American funk, soul and disco band The Commodores was formed in Tuskegee, Alabama, the United States in 1967. The band was founded by Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, Milan Williams, William King, Ronald La Pread and Walter Orange. The band is still performing but the current line-up features only two original members – Walter Orange and William King. The third member is J.D. Nicholas. The band was one of the most successful acts in the 1970s. They caught an eye of the audience when they opened for The Jackson 5 and that was the beginning of their success. The band has produced several number one hit singles on the R&B chart - "Slippery When Wet", "Just to Be Close to You", "Easy", "Too Hot ta Trot", "Three Times a Lady" (number one on the Billboard Hot 100), "Still" (number one on the Billboard Hot 100) and "Nightshift".
