Crystal Kay is a Japanese pop, R&B, rock, urban, dance and folk music singer and songwriter. She was born on February 26, 1986, in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Her musical style is heavily influenced by Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson. At the age of 12, she began her professional musical career signing a contract with the label Epic Records. She appeared on the Japanese pop scene in the late 1990s with her debut hit single, "Eternal Memories", which received good critical acclaim. She rose to fame in 2002 with her breakthrough debut album, Almost Seventeen, which peaked at number two on the Japanese Oricon charts. Three years later, she released her most commercially successful album, Crystal Style, which received platinum certification in Japan and reached number two on the Oricon Weekly Charts.
