Biography

Daniel Johnston is an American folk rock and alternative rock singer, songwriter musician. He was born on January 22, 1961, in Sacramento, California, United States. At the age of 12, he began singing and playing piano and chord organ. During this time, he was heavily inspired by Beatles' music sound and he firmly decided to be an artist. At the age of 19, he moved to Austin, Texas to develop his musical skills. In 1981, he released his breakthrough first album, Songs of Pain, which yielded the singles including "Lazy", "I Save Cigarette Butts", "Like A Monkey In A Zoo", "Wicked Will", "An Idiot's End" and "Wild West Virginia". His next album, Don't Be Scared, was released in 1982 and it produced several singles, "I Had Lost My Mind" and "The Story of an Artist".
