German disco group Dschinghis Khan was formed in 1979 specially for Eurovision song contest. The original line-up composed of Louis Hendrik Potgieter, Steve Bender, Leslie Mándoki, Edina Pop and Wolfgang and Henriette Heichel. The band rose to fame taking 4th place at Eurovision, which helped them to gain enormous popularity in Germany and abroad. For example, the single Moscow spent five weeks on the top of the Australian chart. The song, which earned them first success, was Dschinghis Khan. The band became very popular in USSR despite the fact that Soviet audience couldn’t saw them performing. One of the main elements of their success around the world was their imagery. Though the band broke up in the middle of 1980s, they reformed in 2005 with exception of Potgieter (died) and of Mándoki. The band gave several concerts.
