Erykah Badu, birth name Erica Abi Wright was born on February 26, 1971 in Dallas, Texas, the United States. She is an African-American soul singer and songwriter who incorporated elements of hip-hop, R&B and jazz in her music. Erykah was brought up by her mother and grandmother as her father left the family. She was surrounded by music since her childhood and was listening to old soul of 70s by Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Marvin Gaye. Later she became interested in hip-hop and was always rhyming something and if there was a chance, she always rapped (under moniker MC Apple). She reached the mainstream success very quickly right after the release of her debut album Buduizm. It topped R&B chart and reached number two of the Billboard 200. Since then she has been called “New Billy Holiday”. From our site you can download the debut breakthrough album by Erykah Badu in mp3.
