Freddy Fender (birth name Baldemar Huerta; June 4, 1937 – October 14, 2006) was an American country rock music singer and guitarist. He was born in San Benito, Texas, USA. He started playing the guitar when he was only five years old. Later, he started singing and composing music. He achieved initial success when he was only ten years old. During that time, he also made his first radio appearances with the big hit entitled "Paloma Querida". After that, he began to perform at local clubs. As El Bebop Kid he produced his first smash hits. He came to prominence as a member of Los Super Seven and the Texas Tornados bands. He achieved mainstream success as a solo artist in the middle 1970s with his best selling album, The Great Freddy Fender.
