Biography

Afro-American funk, soul and rock band Funkadelic was formed by George Clinton during the 1960s. The band was popular throughout the 1970s and disbanded in 1981. Originally, the band was unnamed and backed another Clinton’s band the Parliament. The backing band was formed to support the Parliament during a tour and the first line-up composed of Frankie Boyce, Richard Boyce, and Langston Booth. Later the line-up changed a lot and many musicians went through the band. The band’s main influences were Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. On the top of their popularity, they also put disco and electronic elements in their music but generally, that was a guitar-based funk. They have released quite a number of albums and two most popular ones were One Nation Under a Groove and Uncle Jam Wants You. The albums were certified Platinum and Gold respectively.
