Biography

American indie pop and soul singer, songwriter, dancer and performer Janelle Monae Robinson, better known as Janelle Monae was born on December 1, in Kansas City, Kansas. In order to begin her career, she moved to New York at first and then moved to Atlanta where she met OutKast’s member Big Boi and founded Wondaland Arts Society. She prepared the material for her debut album in 2007. However, she managed to release only the first part of the 4 part conceptual album. The re-release of the same EP with two new tracks happened in 2008. The single “Many Moons” earned Monae Grammy nomination for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The debut album The ArchAndroid came out in 2010. The album was praised by the critics, especially by Spin, PopMatters, Chicago Tribune, and others.
