Biography

American jazz organist James Oscar Smith, better known as Jimmy Smith or The Incredible Jimmy Smith was born on December 8, 1928 (1925 according to other sources) in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the United States and died on February 8, 2005 in Scottsdale, Arizona, the U.S. He began his professional career in 1962 signing to Verve Records. His debut album Bushin’ was released the same year and allowed him to collaborate with big bands. He collaborated with many notable musicians of that time including Kenny Burrell, George Benson, Grant Green, Stanley Turrentine, Lee Morgan, and many others. His career was revived in the 1980s and in 1990s when he recorded with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra. His last album is Don Com Blues. It features B.B. King, Etta James and Dr. John.
