American saxophonist and composer John Coltrane, birth name John William Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina, the United States and died on July 17, 1967 in Huntington, New York. Though, his music career was very short (he rose to fame when he was 33 and died at the age of 40) he is considered to be one of the most influential and controversial figures in the jazz history. He played in many styles, which were very different, even opposite, that’s why critics opinions were opposite as well. Nevertheless, nobody denies his incredible contribution to the world jazz music and his influence on the major part of the saxophonists in the second half of the 20th century.
