Lead Belly, or Leadbelly, birth name Huddie William Ledbetter was an American folk, blues and country musician and songwriter born in January 1888 in Louisiana and died on December 6, 1949 in New York, New York, the United States. He has become one of the core figures of the contemporary music. Many of his songs were popularized after his death. Thus, the contemporary country and folk music genres appeared. His blues was revived by many musicians as well. It was later transformed by such bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Thus, he paved the road for the rock genre as well. He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His songs covered many topics from gospel to cowboys and from racism to dancing.
