Levon Helm (full name is Mark Lavon Helm) is an American drummer and vocalist in the rock group The band. He was born on May 26, 1940 in Marvell, Arkansas. His powerful style of drumming can be seen on such tracks as The Weight and Up on Cripple Creek. After The Band split, Helm decided to begin his solo career and in 1980 and in 1982 he released his two solo albums American Son and Levon Helm. Then The Band was reunited and only in 2007 Helm could continue his solo activity. He released the album Dirt Farmer dedicated to his parents and co-produced by his daughter Amy. It earned him a Grammy Award in the category of Best Traditional Folk Album. In 2009 his next and the very last release was issued.
