Lou Reed (birth name Lewis Allan Reed) is an American experimental rock, glam rock, art rock and protopunk musician. He was born on March 2, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. He is also best known as the guitarist, vocalist and principal songwriter of The Velvet Underground. He is also a very successful solo artist. As the Velvet Underground's major songwriter, he paid much attention to the lyrics, that reflected various social problems. And as a guitarist, he experimented with the band's music sound. Later he was described as a pioneer of many guitar effects. In 1974, he released his most successful album, Sally Can't Dance, which produced several hit singles such as "N. Y.
