American jazz singer and songwriter Madelaine Peyroux comes from Athens, Georgia, the United States. She is half-French and after spending her childhood in the States, she moved to Paris with her mother at her early teens. She began singing when she was 15 on the Paris streets joining the group of musicians. Later, she decided to begin a professional music career and was signed by Atlantic records. Her debut album Dreamland was released in 1996. At that time, Peyroux opened for Sarah McLachlan and Cesaria Evora and performed at jazz festivals including Montreal Jazz Festival. Her next album was released in 2004 only. She signed Rounder Records and released Careless Love. The album features her covers of Hank Williams, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Elliott Smith and the only original track "Don't Wait Too Long".
