Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Melanie Fiona, birth name Melanie Fiona Hallim, was born on July 4, 1983 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was introduced to different music when she was a child as her father was a guitarist and mother played piano at home. She played various melodies from different genres. All this influenced Fiona and she decided to pursue a music career. Her debut album The Bridge was released in 2009 via SRC/Universal Motown Records. the album received generally positive critics. Fiona’s breakthrough single is “It Kills Me”. The single has become her first Billboard entry peaking at number 43. It also reached number 1 on the U.S. R&B chart. She earned Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "It Kills Me”. She earned also NAACP Image Awards nomination for Outstanding New Artist and Juno awards nomination for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year: The Bridge.
