German pop duo Milli Vanilli was formed by producer Frank Farian in 1988. He created many pop/dance groups including Boney M. The pop duo was fronted by Fabrice Morvan and Robert Pilatus. The group reached big international success but soon became infamous and had to dissolve. The reason of the failure was that group members didn’t sing and all the material was recorded in the studio by other people. The recording musicians and vocalists lacked the marketable image thus Farian recruited two dancers who were to promote the project on TV. The success was smashing. The group was called “music sensation” and they received Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Some of their hit singles at that period were "Baby Don't Forget My Number", "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" and "Blame It on the Rain". All of them reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
