Biography

Christa Päffgen known as Nico was born on October 16, 1938 in Cologne, Germany, died on July 18, 1988 in Ibiza, Spain. She was a German singer-songwriter, being deaf on one ear, fashion model and actress. She rose to fame when she provided vocals for The Velvet Underground debut album “The Velvet Underground and Nico”. When she was working a model in Ibiza, photograph Tobias gave her moniker Nico after his ex-lover Nico Papatakis. At the end of 1950 she went to Paris where she was working for such magazines like Vogue, ELLE, Tempo, Vie Nuove and Mascotte Spettacolo. She has a son Ari born in 1962 and named Alain Delon as his father, though Delon didn’t recognize the boy as his son. She also collaborated with Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones who helped her to record her debut single and with Andy Warhol, he was her close friend.
