Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (May 27, 1946 – April 19, 2005) was Danish hard bop and jazz bassist. He was also simply known as NHØP. He began playing the piano when he was a child. At the age of 14, he started learning to play the contrabass and firmly decided to be a jazzman. Later, he joined the Jazzkvintet 60 band and also became a regular bassist at Copenhagen's Jazzhus Montmartre. From 1962 to 1968, he collaborated with popular American jazzmen who were touring in Denmark. In the early 1970s, he decided to move to the US to develop his professional music skills. During this time, he performed with worldwide famous musicians such as Anthony Braxton, Albert Ayler, and Archie Shepp. In 1978, he along with the American jazz guitarist Joe Pass released Chops, which included his well-known hits, "Have You Met Miss Jones?", "Oleo", "Come Rain or Come Shine", "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" and "Yardbird Suite".
