Biography
Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal, gothic metal, heavy metal and symphonic black metal band that was formed in 1996 by songwriter/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former vocalist Tarja Turunen, and currently consists of Anette Olzon, Tuomas Holopainen, Marco Hietala, Emppu Vuorinen and Jukka Nevalainen. They are best known for their collection of hit singles, "Ever Dream", "Bless the Child", "Nemo", "Wish I Had an Angel" and "Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan". The band has also been identified by some critics as a gothic metal act. Bassist and vocalist Marco Hietala describes the band's style as "melodic symphonic gothic metal". Nightwish was perceived to shift from their trademark operatic power metal style for a more "commercial" gothic sound on their albums Century Child and Once.
