Oumou Sangare is a Malian Wassoulou singer, songwriter and musician who was born on February 25, 1968, in Bamako, Mali. Her music style is often considered as the music of the region with elements of traditional sounds. She rose to fame as a lead singer of the Djoliba band. She is also well known for her professional relationship with a popular maestro of Malian music Amadou Ba Guindo. In 1991, she released her debut album, Moussoulou, which brought her a contract with record label. Two years later, she released her most successful album, Ko Sira, which spawned several hit singles such as "Kayini Wura (Evening Greeting)", "Sigi Kuruni (Advice to a New Bride)", "Mani Djindala (The Young Adventurer)", "Saa Magni", "Dugu Kamelemba (The Womanizer)" and "Bi Furu (Modern Marriage)".
