Biography
The Pretenders are a British rock and punk rock band that was formed in 1978 and currently consists of songwriter Chrissie Hynde (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), Pete Farndon (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Martin Chambers (drums, backing vocals, percussion). They quickly gained popularity in 1980 with their successful self-titled first album, which peaked at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and also reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200. The album also was certified Platinum. The album spawned several hit singles, "Stop Your Sobbing", "The Wait," "Kid", "Tattooed Love Boys," and "Brass in Pocket", "Swinging London", "Nervous but Shy". This album also received good critical reviews. Later, The Pretenders was ranked number 155 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
