Nina Simone, birth name Eunice Kathleen Waymon was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist. She was of African-American origin and was born on February 21, 1933 in Tryon, North Carolina, the United States and died on April 21, 2003 in Carry-le-Rouet, France. She tried to sing in jazz traditions but also she incorporated in her music different elements such as pop, R&B, soul, folk and gospel. She began her career as pianist in nightclubs of Atlantic City where she invented her pseudonym partly taken from her favorite actress Simone Signore. 1965 saw her most popular album which quickly propelled her to the stardom.
