Biography

Smokey Robinson, birth name William Robinson Jr., is an American R&B singer-songwriter, record producer and record executive. He was born on February 19, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, the United States and began his music career in 1955. His vocal group The Miracles was the main part of the commercial success for the Motown Records during 1960s. Robinson was a vice-president of the label since 1961 until 1988. After leaving his group, he began a solo career, which was also very successful and released such hit singles as "Baby That's Backatcha", "Cruisin'", "Being With You", "Tell Me Tomorrow" and "Ebony Eyes". Many famous musicians recognized his works and George Harrison (ex-Beatles) wrote a song for him “Pure Smokey”. John Lennon named Robinson’s song “I’ve Been Good to You” as one of his favorites.
