Spearhead are an American hip hop, funk, reggae and jazz band Spearhead from Oakland, California that was founded in 1992 by reggae poet, musician and composer Michael Franti. Later, Carl Young and several studio musicians joined the act. They emerged on the American hip hop scene in the early 1990s with their debut album, Home, which was released through the Capitol Records. This record was praised by critics. The band continued success with their following album, Chocolate Supa Highway, which was released in 1997. It reached Top 30 in the US. The album's singles were "Why Oh Why", "Chocolate Supa Highway", "Keep Me Lifted" and "Food for the Masses". This record also received mainly positive reviews from critics.
