Biography

Squeeze are an English new wave, power pop and indie rock band that was formed in 1974 and currently consists of Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, John Bentley, Stephen Large and Simon Hanson. At the beginning of their career, they spent a lot of time around Deptford in SE London. During this time, they were part of a local music scene. Later, they signed to Deptford Fun City Label and released their debut EP, 1977's Packet of Three. The band gained popularity in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. It was a new wave period. They also continued recording successfully from 1980 to 1990. The band is best known in the UK for their hit singles such as "Cool for Cats," "Up the Junction," "Tempted," "Black Coffee In Bed," "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)," and "Hourglass". In 1981, they released their most successful album, East Side Story, which yielded the singles, "Messed Around", "Labelled With Love", "Is That Love" and "Tempted".
