Thelonious Monk, birth name Thelonious Sphere Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer born on October 10, 1917Rocky Mount, North Carolina, U.S. and died on February 17, 1982 in Englewood, New Jersey, U.S. He established himself as one of the outstanding pianists in American music history. Monk is considered to be bebop founder. He had a unique improvisational style and his manner of play was not very usual for jazz. However, some of his compositions like «Round Midnight», «Ruby My Dear», «52nd Street Theme» and some others have become jazz classics. Monk achieved his break when he recorded the album Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington. Duke Ellington acclaimed the album and that caught public’s attention on Monk.
