Tina Turner (birth name Anna Mae Bullock) is an American rock and roll, rhythm and blues and pop singer and actress. She was born on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, United States. After joining Ike Turner's band as a background vocalist, the pair formed the duo, Ike & Tina Turner in 1960. She remained as a member of the duo until 1976, acquiring a series of major hits on the R&B chart, including "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits". After leaving Ike Turner, she established a solo career, signing with United Artists Records. In 1984, she released her breakthrough solo album, Private Dancer, which produced a number of highly successful singles including "What's Love Got to Do with It" which went to number one. The album's other singles were "Better Be Good To Me", "Let's Stay Together", "Private Dancer", "I Can't Stand the Rain" and "Show Some Respect".
