Ernesto Antonio Puente Jr., better known as Tito Puente Sr. was an American Latin music musician born on April 20, 1923 in Harlem, New York, the United States and died on May 31, 2000 in New York, the United States. Puente became one of the most popular artists of his genre making Latin American music more popular and bringing African, Caribbean and Cuban rhythms to the mainstream public. He showed the public mambo, cha-cha-cha and salsa. He was called The King of the Latin Music. Puente is known best of all for his mambo and Latin jazz compositions. He performed at the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. He has his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was awarded by National Medal of Arts.
