Zakir Hussain (full name is Ustad Zakir Hussain) is an Indian musician, soundtrack composer and film actor. He was born on March 9, 1951 in Mumbai, India. He plays Tabla a traditional Indian instrument and works in genre of Indian classic music. He moved to the US in 1970 in order to begin his international career. In 1990 he got the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album in collaboration with Mickey Hart, Sikiru Adepoju, and Giovanni Hidalgo. Hussain collaborated also with many other musicians, like John McLaughlin, Bill Laswell. Hussain’s works are available for downloading in mp3 from our site. Some of his albums are Vanaprastham, Zakir Houssain and the Rhythm, The Elements Space. He also composed the music for the films, such as In Custody and Mystic Masseur. He also played Tabla for the soundtracks to Apocalypse Now and Little Buddha.
